
HEAD COACH AND THROWS COACH
Coach Carlos began his coaching career in January 2010 at Rancho Alamitos High School. Two years later, in 2012, he started coaching at Marina, putting his focus and expertise into the throws events. Throughout his coaching journey, Coach Carlos has specialized in coaching shot put and other throwing disciplines, drawing from his own experience as a thrower and football player.
His dedication and skill as a coach were recognized in 2016 when he was named Coach of the Year, a testament to his impact on the athletes and the program. Before stepping onto the coaching field, Coach Carlos was an accomplished athlete himself, having participated as both a thrower and a football player at Rancho Alamitos High School.
Coach Carlos achieved impressive personal records as a thrower, including throws of 46 feet with both the 12-pound and 16-pound shot put during his time at Rancho Alamitos. He continued his academic and athletic pursuits at Saint Augustine's University, competing at both the high school and collegiate levels.
A personal tidbit about Coach Carlos: beyond his many achievements as an athlete and coach, he remains dedicated to sharing his passion for track and field, inspiring the next generation of throwers to strive for excellence in both sports and life.

Coach Michael began his coaching journey in the 2012 season at Los Amigos High School, a place that played an important role in his athletic and professional development. After several successful years shaping young athletes there, he took the next step in his career and started coaching at Marina High School in 2019.
Specializing in horizontal jumps, Coach Michael focuses on both the long jump and triple jump events. His expertise stems from his own experiences as a sprinter and jumper during his high school years at Los Amigos H.S., where he demonstrated dedication and athletic versatility.
In addition to his work with high school athletes, Coach Michael continued his athletic pursuits at the collegiate level, further broadening his knowledge and love for track and field. Throughout his coaching career, he has been recognized for his commitment to athlete development and his enthusiasm for the sport.
A personal tidbit about Coach Michael—he has a passion for exploring and trying all types of cuisines. This adventurous spirit carries over into his coaching philosophy, where he encourages athletes to embrace new challenges both on and off the field.

ASSISTANT DISTANCE COACH (800m-3200m)
Coach Jason Dunn is an experienced distance runner who transitioned into coaching in December 2024 at Marina H.S. With a passion for distance events, he began sharing his expertise and enthusiasm with student-athletes as an Assistant Distance Coach, focusing primarily on the 800m through 3200m events.
His firsthand experience as a distance runner, including time spent competing for Norco and Performance Elite Running at both the high school and college levels, gives him unique insight into the physical and mental demands of the sport.
As Assistant Distance Coach, Coach Jason works with athletes in the 800m, 1500m, 3200m, and 5000m, helping them reach their full potential through dedicated training and mentorship.
His personal records stand as evidence of his commitment and athletic ability: 1500m in 4:01, 800m in 1:57, 5000m in 15:23, and 8k cross country in 26:00.
Outside of coaching, one personal tidbit about Coach Jason is his ongoing dedication to the sport, always seeking new ways to inspire and develop young athletes on and off the track.

ASSISTANT THROWS COACH

HURDLE COACH
Coach Paul has been an influential figure in the world of coaching since 2008, when he began his journey in Orange County. Over the years, Coach Paul has made a significant impact at Marina H.S., starting his tenure there in February 2026. Specializing in the hurdles, his expertise has been sought after by athletes striving for excellence.
Throughout his career, Coach Paul has been associated with a variety of prestigious awards, including World, National, and Pan American honors. His dedication to the sport is evident in his participation as a coach at Beckman High School, where he has helped shape the futures of many young athletes.
He is also a proud USATF member, having contributed his knowledge at the collegiate level. Among his most notable achievements are two world records, Decathlon/Pentathlon national championships, and the distinction of guiding more than 70 athletes to All-American status.
Outside of coaching, Coach Paul is known for his unique talents and hobbies, such as whistling and singing, bringing enthusiasm and positivity to every environment he enters. His passion for both athletics and the arts makes him a well-rounded and inspiring coach for all who work with him.
